Today we continue with Chapter 13 of the book Christ the Healer by F. F. Bosworth. The title of this chapter is “Why Some Fail to Receive Healing from Christ”.

In this Chapter, Brother Bosworth discusses reasons why people sometimes do not experience what they see revealed in God’s Word as his will for them, specifically concerning healing.

The first reason he gives is “Insufficient instruction — Ignorance concerning the Healing Power of the Gospel.” The second and third reason Bro. Bosworth gives for why some people struggle to receive healing or do not experience it at all, and that is community unbelief and the Church is not on one accord teaching what the Scripture reveals as God’s will concerning healing.

Today we are going to focus on the fourth reason the healing part of the Gospel can be hindered and even made void and that is the traditions of men.

This can cover a lot of areas but basically it’s wrong belief that has been passed down from generation to generation. These wrong beliefs lead to wrong acts, acts made in disbelief, not in faith.

What you need to do, what we need to always do, is to question everything we believe, have been taught or heard.

When I first went to Bible School, I remember one of the instructors saying, “A lot of your first year at school will be unlearning the wrong things you now believe.” They taught us to make the Word our final authority and nothing else.

Now I’m sure there are still things I wrongly believe just as you have things to, but we all should be in a continuous place of learning and growing. We should study the Word of God and when it reveals truth which contradicts our beliefs, we yield. We say, “God’s Word is right” and then we change to agree with his Word.

In this Chapter Bro. Boswoth goes in length about several common wrong beliefs that have become traditional ways of thinking. I encourage you to read through them.

Especially pay attention to his teaching on the Apostle Paul.

I want you to say this confession with me.

“The Word is God’s Word, revealing his Truth and Will to me. It’s my final authority and I yield to it as I yield to God.”

Let me just point out one that I don’t think is covered by Bro. Bosworth.

Sometimes when someone dies, especially a young person, you may hear someone say, “Well God just needed another angel”.

This is not in Scripture. We are not angels. We are his anyway. God does not take someone’s life because he wants them with him. To tell people that is unscriptural and can lead to someone blaming God for their pain.

Let’s make sure we believe right and speak right. Question everything to see if it lines up with God’s Word.

Grow. Even if you believe right, you can increase how correct you are and you should.

Let me give you an example.

Acts 18

24 Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Blessings in Christ,
